BETHLEHEM, Pa. — U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will bring his national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour to Lehigh University’s Stabler Athletic & Convocation Center next Saturday, May 3rd.
The rally, featuring Sanders alongside U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-Pa., begins at 1 p.m., with doors opening at 10:30 a.m.
Registration is required for the free event, and parking is available at the venue.
During his presidential campaign, Sanders last visited the Lehigh Valley in April 2019, holding a Fox News town hall at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem.
That nationally televised event, set against the backdrop of the former Bethlehem Steel plant, drew significant attention as Sanders defended his Medicare for All proposal and discussed economic inequality in a region that has experienced significant industrial transition.
Rather than seeking office, Sanders now focuses on building the next generation of progressive leadership through endorsements and campaigning for like-minded candidates.
The Lehigh Valley has established itself as a worthy stop along Sanders’ national tour due to its balanced political demographics and swing-region status.
In 2024, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump underscored the electoral importance of Lehigh Valley by visiting Allentown during their campaign trails.
Lehigh University, the rally’s host, has a long history of engaging in political discourse, making it a fitting venue for Sanders’ message.
The Stabler Center’s 6,000-person capacity makes it one of the larger Lehigh Valley venues, reflecting organizers’ expectations for significant attendance.
