BETHLEHEM, PA — The Sheetz gas station on Schoenersville Road in Bethlehem, PA, is temporarily closed while the 18-year-old building is being demolished and redeveloped to modern standards.
The convenience giant closed its doors on Sunday, June 2nd, following the retailer’s temporary closure announcement. Demolition at its north Bethlehem location, built in 2006, began shortly after. It was the second oldest Sheetz in the region.
Work appears to be moving along quickly, so much so that locals posted concerns in local Facebook groups, wondering what happened to the building standing tall just two weeks ago. At the time of writing, the entire structure has been leveled, with only remnants of steel and concrete remaining to be broken up and disposed of.
While it may appear out of left field, plans for the upgraded business were submitted by Integrated Consulting to the Bethlehem Planning Commission in November 2022, with the most recent plan revision dated April 2023. The commission granted official approval in May of last year.
The plans reveal that the new store’s overall footprint is similar to the original, with some added upgrades, notably a drive-thru lane. The car wash will remain.

While Sheetz has built numerous drive-thru-enabled stores in the past, this will be the second one in our area to pop up within a year. The first is the newly opened location on Bethlehem’s South Side on May 2nd of this year.
Construction plans indicate a completion timeline for the fall of this year if all goes to plan.
