BETHLEHEM, PA—Wells Fargo will close its 52 W Broad St branch in Bethlehem, PA, on August 28th, 2024, at 11 a.m., leaving one less place in the Lehigh Valley to bank in person.
Notices posted on the doors to the main entrance informed customers of the upcoming change and suggested that those affected visit alternate branches in the city listed below.
- 301 Broadway, Bethlehem, PA 18015
- 1602 Union Boulevard, Allentown, PA 18109
- 2750 Schoenersville Rd, Bethlehem, PA 18017
As posted, the ATM on site will continue to operate after the closing. Night drop services are canceled.
According to a statement obtained by WFMZ, “Wells Fargo remains committed to Bethlehem, and branches continue to play an important role in the way we serve our customers in combination with our online and mobile channels and ATMs.”
Digital banking continues to grow in popularity, and shifting resources to support these changes makes sense in a tech-dependent society.
As financial apps that address the unbanked and underbanked population, such as Dave and Chime, also continue to grow, it’s evident that consumers find value in managing their finances online.
There is no word yet about what will take the bank’s place in the monumental structure.
Many locals in LV Facebook groups have expressed hopes that the building isn’t demolished, like its neighbor, the BOYD, to make room for new luxury apartments.
A popular suggestion was to transform the space into a chique restaurant, as downtown Bethlehem lacks upscale dining options.
The Mint gastropub, located further down on Broad St, was spun out of an old Bank of America building in 2011. Although that business closed its doors in 2023, it reminds us that it is possible to revitalize the space and preserve the architecture.
