Catasauqua Post Office closure to continue through 2025
CATASAUQUA, Pa. — The Catasauqua Borough Post Office remains closed to the public more than a year after its ceiling collapsed, with federal authorities now projecting construction to last into early summer 2026.
A representative from U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie’s office confirmed that the U.S. Postal Service’s Facilities team plans to begin repairs by the end of November.
“The roof collapse repair project is still ongoing,” his office said. “Construction is estimated to be completed by early summer 2026.”
The post office has been closed since early 2024. Mail for Catasauqua residents is currently being rerouted through post offices in Hanover and Whitehall townships outside Allentown.
“They haven’t pulled any permits to fix it,” said Catasauqua Borough Administrator Glenn Eckhart. “You wouldn’t believe the volume of phone calls that we get to know when the post office will open. We don’t know what’s going on because it’s a federal building.”
Congressman Mackenzie had previously indicated the post office might reopen in September 2025. The U.S. Postal Service in Pennsylvania did not immediately respond to requests for additional details.
The closure has left some residents frustrated as they continue to navigate rerouted mail and limited access to postal services.
