More than two dozen Lehigh Valley communities will mark National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4, including two celebrations in Easton.
The West Ward Community Initiative will host its event from 5-8 p.m. on North 12th Street, next to Paxinosa Elementary School at 1221 Northampton St., with a police-run cookout, live music from the Big Easy Easton Brass Band, a fire truck display and children’s activities.
Across the Lehigh River, the South Side Civic Association will gather at Pioneer Park beginning at 5 p.m. with free food, music and a movie at dusk. Easton police and firefighters will attend both.
“National Night Out is one of the best opportunities we have to bring neighbors together in a relaxed and welcoming environment,” said Jacob Behler, manager of the West Ward Community Initiative. “We want people to come out, connect with one another and experience everything the West Ward — and Easton as a whole — has to offer alongside the people and organizations dedicated to serving our community.”
Tuesday marks the 43rd National Night Out, held on the first Tuesday in August since 1984 and sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, which says more than 17,000 communities will take part this year.
