EASTON, Pa. — A community food drive at the Easton Farmers Market on Saturday, Nov. 8 will aim to support local families facing food insecurity and to bolster pantry supplies amid the pause in federal food assistance.

The drive will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Scott Park along the riverfront in downtown Easton. A collection tent will be set up near the Larry Holmes statue.

The event is organized by Easton City Council Member Crystal Rose in partnership with the Easton Farmers Market and local volunteers. Organizers are seeking donations of fresh produce, nonperishable food items and grocery store gift cards. Visitors can also purchase market tokens to be provided to SNAP recipients, allowing them to shop directly from market vendors.

“I wanted to take action locally to help fill the gap,” Rose said. “SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, serves over 40 million people nationwide. A shutdown threatens to suspend these benefits, raising urgent concerns about food access for vulnerable families. Our local food pantries and food banks are already feeling it.”

Rose thanked the Easton Farmers Market for offering space, volunteers for helping to spread the word and Council Member Frank Pintabone for his support.

All donations will be shared equally between Project Easton’s food pantry and The Neighborhood Center’s food pantry to help ensure Easton residents have consistent access to nutritious food in the coming weeks.

“This drive is about neighbors helping neighbors,” Rose said. “We’re proud to bring the community together in such a meaningful way.”

Market visitors are encouraged to stop by with donations while enjoying the weekly market’s vendors and activities.
