Police identify teen killed in Freedom High School parking lot crash

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bethlehem Township police have identified David Nagy as the 17-year-old boy killed early Sunday in a motor vehicle crash near Freedom High School.

Nagy was a junior at the school, according to a news release from the township police department.

“Everyone involved has been cooperative,” township Police Chief Gregory Gottschall said in a statement. “It was a group of friends involved in the incident. A number of teenagers were participating in reckless behavior. That behavior resulted in the death of the victim.”

The crash occurred around 1:28 a.m. June 1 in the main parking lot of Freedom High School.

“A group of teenagers and two vehicles were involved in the crash incident,” Bethlehem Township Police Department officials said in a news release. “During the incident, a 17-year-old male collided with a stationary parked vehicle and died at the scene.”

Emergency responders from Bethlehem Township EMS and the Northampton County Coroner’s Office also responded.

The Bethlehem Area School District released a statement on Monday.

“It is with deep sadness that we communicate this devastating news,” the statement reads. “We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family and to all of those affected by this tragic incident.”

District officials plan to have counselors and additional resources for Freedom High School students and staff available.

The investigation is being led by Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek and the Bethlehem Township Police Department.
