Rodale Institute to host annual ‘Fall on the Farm’ Saturday
KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Rodale Institute will host its annual Fall on the Farm event Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm at its 386-acre campus in Berks County.
The harvest celebration will feature a corn maze, pumpkin painting, a scarecrow competition and live music from 3 West. A pumpkin rocket will allow visitors to launch pumpkins and gourds across the organic farm.
Food trucks including Funky Chicken, Take a Taco and The Fool Café will serve meals throughout the day. Local artisan vendors will sell handmade goods, and the institute will hold a fall plant sale. The event is open to all ages. Apple cider will be available.
Free wagon tours of the farm will run throughout the event. Visitors can also take self-guided walking tours and explore the Visitor Center, housed in a historic one-room schoolhouse. The center sells books, gardening supplies, organic groceries and local artisan products.
The Kutztown-based nonprofit research farm focuses on regenerative organic agriculture. J.I. Rodale founded the organization in Emmaus in 1947. After his death in 1971, his son, Robert Rodale, moved the operation to its current location in Kutztown.
The institute conducts research on organic farming methods and soil health through its long-running Farming Systems Trial, which compares the practices of organic and conventional agriculture.
Rodale Institute is located at 611 Siegfriedale Road in Kutztown, approximately 20 miles northwest of Allentown.
