ALLENTOWN — Two pedestrians were seriously injured Thursday afternoon when a vehicle struck them and crashed into the Elias Farmers Market building twice, according to Allentown police.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. at 101 Tilghman Street. Police, fire, and paramedic units responded to reports of a vehicle into the building with two pedestrians struck.
A 53-year-old man and a 25-year-old man suffered serious injuries and were transported by Allentown EMS to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
City surveillance footage captured the sequence of events, according to Capt. Stephen J. Milkovits III of the Criminal Investigations Division.
The footage shows a 71-year-old female driver in an Infiniti SUV entering a parking lot and attempting to park when the vehicle pulled through a parking stall and struck the building.
The SUV then accelerated rapidly in reverse, hitting a legally parked, unoccupied vehicle before moving forward again.
The car drove through the open parking stall, struck the two pedestrians, and crashed into the building a second time, causing additional damage.
The driver was uninjured and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
The incident is being investigated by the Allentown Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
