ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A Willow Grove man is facing felony charges after crashing his vehicle and assaulting a woman inside her home Friday evening in Allentown.

Officers were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. June 20 to the 100 block of West Turner Street for a motor vehicle accident, according to a statement from the Allentown Police Department.

They were directed to a nearby residence, where they found a woman with a slash wound to the head. Officers provided first aid before Allentown EMS transported her to a nearby hospital. Her injury is not considered life-threatening, police said.

Investigators said the incident began when the driver of a sedan struck a parked vehicle and attempted to leave the scene. The victim and a witness confronted him, leading to a verbal altercation. As they retreated into their residence, the suspect followed the woman inside and assaulted her with a cutting instrument, police said.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Francisco Santiago, 27, was taken into custody and charged with burglary, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of instruments of a crime and driving under the influence.

“As in every criminal case, the fact that a warrant has been issued or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation and the defendant in this case is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty,” the statement read.

Authorities said no further information would be released at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
