BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A man who is not affiliated with Lehigh University was taken into custody early Sunday after police said he broke into the Alpha Phi sorority house on campus.
According to Lehigh University police, officers responded at about 5:37 a.m. Sunday to a report of broken glass at the sorority house, located at 98 Upper Sayre Park Road. A student living in the house called the police after discovering damage to a back door.
When officers arrived, they found the back door had been forcibly opened. A search of the building led to the discovery of a man inside, who was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators later determined the man had a personal connection to the house but is not a Lehigh student. Police said he was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and public drunkenness in cooperation with the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office.
Lehigh police said there is no ongoing threat to the university community and did not provide additional information when requested.
Maintenance crews from ABM were called to temporarily board up the damaged door and remove the broken glass from the premises.
Lehigh officials reminded students of the university’s safety resources, including the HawkWatch app, which provides direct access to campus police dispatchers.
