CATASAUQUA, Pa. — Police responded to Innovative Arts Academy in Catasauqua on Tuesday afternoon after receiving a report that a student brought a gun to school.
According to emergency dispatch records, officers were called to the charter school at 330 Howertown Road around 2:10 p.m. for a report of a 17-year-old male in possession of a firearm and multiple magazines.
A dispatcher said the situation was under control.
“Be advised, I’m holding an armed person at Innovative Arts Academy,” the dispatcher said in a radio transmission. “A 17-year-old male who is in possession of a firearm with multiple magazines. They do have him in the office and have the weapon in their possession.”
Police and school staff reportedly secured the weapon before officers arrived. No injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation and there is no current danger to the public or community.
The Catasauqua Police Department and the Catasauqua Area School District did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Parents were reportedly notified by email after the incident.
