Police to increase presence at Allentown schools after series of bomb threats
ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Police will increase their presence at Allentown schools after a series of recent bomb threats, including one that prompted the evacuation of a high school Wednesday morning.
After a threat at William Allen High School, district officials said law enforcement cleared the building and determined it was safe to return. Students were evacuated while police investigated. No explosives were found and classes later resumed, the district said in a message to families.
“We are grateful to the Allentown Police Department, our Safety and Security Team, and staff for their swift response and adherence to safety procedures,” the district said in a statement.
The student responsible has not yet been identified, and police continue to investigate.
The latest incident follows two bomb threats last week at Trexler Middle School. Police determined both reports were hoaxes, traced them to students and filed charges of making terroristic threats.

James Gress, assistant chief of police support services, said the department is increasing patrols around schools in response to the threats.
“All threats are taken seriously, and we will continue to work closely with the district to ensure the safety of students and staff,” Gress said.
The Allentown School District said bomb threats are classified as a level 4 infraction under its Student and Family Handbook, carrying disciplinary measures that can include long-term suspension, alternative placement or expulsion.
Families and students are encouraged to report safety concerns through the district’s Anonymous Tip Line at 1-844-SAF2SAY or safe2saypa.org. In emergencies, people should call 911.
