BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh Valley-based filmmaking collective Route 22 Filmworks will return to the Charles A. Brown Ice House on Saturday, Aug. 23, for its third annual Route 22 Filmworks Film Festival.

The festival will run from noon to 9 p.m., showcasing 39 films produced by independent filmmakers, most from Pennsylvania. Student filmmakers from DeSales University, Penn State, Muhlenberg College and West Chester University will also be featured. Submissions from New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Maryland will round out the lineup.

“We are excited by this year’s lineup of short films,” said Michael Sheridan, one of the group’s co-founders. “This festival is about celebrating local, independent filmmaking. These are people who do it for the love of making films, often with no money, but lots of talent and heart.”

The grassroots festival debuted in 2023 with more than two dozen locally produced short films, including several by Route 22 Filmworks members. This will be its third year at the Ice House.

Founded in 2017 by Lehigh Valley residents Vincent Stahl, Dawn Daignault and Sheridan, Route 22 Filmworks brings together filmmakers from across the region, including Easton, Effort, Coplay, Bethlehem and Allentown, as well as New Jersey. The group meets monthly via Zoom to collaborate on short film projects and discuss the craft.
