HELLERTOWN, Pa. — Hellertown residents will need to continue boiling their water or using bottled water for several more days after a delay in water quality testing forced the borough to extend its boil water advisory.
The Hellertown Borough Authority said Friday that ABE Laboratory, which processes its water samples, experienced a power outage overnight that rendered the initial samples unusable for testing.
New samples were collected Sunday and again Monday, according to a public notice from the authority. The advisory will remain in place until at least noon Tuesday, pending confirmation of satisfactory test results and approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
“We understand this situation is inconvenient and frustrating, and we appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we work with the lab and PADEP to ensure the safety and quality of your water supply,” the borough authority said in a statement.
The advisory was first issued Thursday after a 14-inch water main broke near the Steel Club golf course, disrupting service across parts of the borough and causing a temporary loss of pressure in the system.
Residents are urged to continue boiling water before drinking, using it in cooking or brushing their teeth until further notice.
