EASTON, Pa. — City officials announced Easton has been awarded $1.3 million to improve traffic calming measures and pedestrian safety in the city’s downtown and West Ward.

The funding, secured through the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission’s Lehigh Valley Transportation Study, will support upgrades to sidewalks, curb bump-outs, ADA-accessible ramps, crosswalks and bike lanes, according to Councilwoman Crystal Rose.

About $1 million will go toward those infrastructure improvements, while $300,000 is earmarked to redesign the intersection of Northampton Street and Larry Holmes Drive.

City officials said the projects aim to make downtown Easton safer and more welcoming while promoting sustainable transit, improving air quality and encouraging public life.

“These improvements will strengthen our downtown as a safe, welcoming space,” Rose said in a statement. “They will support Easton’s goals of sustainable transit, improved air quality and vibrant public life.”
