EASTON, Pa. — Easton Area School District officials issued a public statement Saturday addressing demands for disciplinary action against school nursing supervisor Kelly Keegan over social media posts she allegedly made about conservative activist Charlie Kirk following his assassination.

A post widely attributed to Keegan, who also serves on Northampton County Council, called Kirk a “monster” and said “his wife and kids are better off without him as is the rest of the world.”

In a statement posted Saturday on the district’s website, Superintendent Tracy Piazza and school board President Jodi Hess said the comments do not reflect the district’s “core beliefs and values.”

“This matter is being handled diligently, responsibly, and in strict accordance with school district policy, state and federal law, and the advice of our legal counsel,” the statement read.

The district leaders also thanked community members who spoke at Tuesday’s board meeting, where parents and residents repeatedly pressed the board to take action. The meeting turned hostile at times, with audience members shouting over one another.

“I’m not playing around and neither are these parents,” said Kathleen Harrison, an Easton parent. “We will not stop until Kelly Keegan loses her job.”

Because it is a personnel matter, Piazza and Hess said they would not provide further details.

“We want to be clear: an outcome that is not publicly discussed does not mean the matter was left unhandled or ignored,” they wrote. “We are committed to due process and following all legal requirements.”

The new statement follows a Sept. 13 statement from Piazza in which she described the comments attributed to Keegan as “insensitive, without merit and in conflict with all that we stand for as a district.”
