Allentown to host Juneteenth youth flag football tournament
ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The City of Allentown will host a Juneteenth 5v5 Youth Flag Football Tournament on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at J. Birney Crum Stadium for its week-long Juneteenth celebration.
The multi-day celebration focuses on freedom, culture, and community. It features live entertainment, family-friendly activities, youth sports tournaments, and a vibrant marketplace of local vendors, food, and art.
The tournament is open to youth teams across multiple age divisions. Registration is available through Friday, June 13. Team entry fees are $200 per team across all divisions.
Five divisions will compete in the co-ed tournament: 8U (ages 8 and under), 10U (ages 10 and under), 12U (ages 12 and under), 14U (ages 14 and under), and a high school division that is boys only. Registration fees are the same for Allentown residents and non-residents.
Teams must pay all fees in full to complete registration and secure their tournament spot. The tournament uses a 5-on-5 flag football format.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed enslaved people of their freedom.
This occurred two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Combining “June” and “nineteenth,” the holiday marks the effective end of slavery in the United States and became a federal holiday in 2021.
Teams interested in participating can register through the City of Allentown’s registration system.
Tournament rules and additional forms are available through the city’s athletics department.
