BETHLEHEM, Pa. — PeepsFest, the early New Year’s countdown for families, will return to SteelStacks for its 18th year on Wednesday, Dec. 30, and Thursday, Dec. 31, ArtsQuest announced Wednesday.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, SteelStacks said on Instagram, and organizers say the event can sell out.

Tickets are $7 per person, plus fees. Children 1 and under get in free.

The festival runs from 3 to 6 p.m. both days. At 5:35 p.m. each evening, a 400-pound, 4-foot-9-inch Peeps chick descends to count down to the new year, followed by fireworks over SteelStacks. The schedule is the same as last year’s.

Activities fill the campus indoors and out: live music, Peeps games, crafts run by local nonprofits and science shows from the Da Vinci Science Center. Children 12 and under get a PeepsFest tote bag.

Lehigh Valley Public Media/PBS39 will run a bookmark craft station, and Chef Julie of Levy Restaurants will share recipes made with Peeps. PBS39’s sensory-friendly space, presented by Good Shepherd Rehabilitation, offers a quieter setting for guests with sensory sensitivities.

“From the excitement of the PEEPS® Chick Drop and fireworks to the incredible variety of activities offered by our community partners, there’s something special about seeing families make memories together at SteelStacks,” said Shayna Super, ArtsQuest’s programming director.

Just Born, which makes Peeps and has been based in Bethlehem since 1932, presents the festival.

“There’s nothing quite like seeing the excitement on children’s faces as they enjoy the activities and count down together to the PEEPS® Chick Drop,” said Courtney Angle, a corporate affairs specialist at Just Born.
