EMMAUS, Pa. — A Lehigh Valley nonprofit that helps families facing cancer and other serious illnesses pay for child care will hold a pink-out cornhole tournament Oct. 10 at Yergey Brewing in Emmaus, timed to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Money raised at “Bagging for Breasts,” organized by Zionsville-based Ribbons of C.A.R.E., will support the group’s child care assistance grants. The grants help parents pay for child care while they attend cancer treatments, surgeries and medical appointments, according to the event’s registration page.

The nonprofit said it has awarded 10 grants so far and relies on fundraisers such as this one to reach more families.

Child care is a steep cost for Pennsylvania families even without a medical crisis. Center-based infant care in the state averaged $14,910 in 2024, according to an analysis by Child Care Aware of America, a national advocacy group.

This is the organization’s second cornhole tournament at the brewery. The first was held Sept. 13, 2025.

Check-in begins at noon at the brewery, 235 Main St., and play starts at 1 p.m. The tournament uses a double-elimination bracket.

Registration costs $50 per two-person team and includes one beer ticket for each player 21 or older and one hot dog ticket per adult, according to the registration page. Organizers said pre-registration spots are limited.

The first-place team will win $250, and second- and third-place teams will also receive prizes.

The event, which organizers describe as adult-focused, will also include basket raffles, side games with cash prizes, food trucks and breast cancer awareness activities. Organizers are asking attendees, including those who don’t play, to wear pink.

Ribbons of C.A.R.E. founder Alecia Fegley, a mother of three, started the organization in 2024 while being treated for stage 3 breast cancer. She was diagnosed that January at age 28.

“I call myself a survivor from day one,” Fegley told WFMZ-TV in October 2024. “When you’re diagnosed, you’re considered a survivor.”

Although breast cancer is diagnosed most often in older women, about 1 in 10 women diagnosed are younger than 45, according to the American Cancer Society. The society has reported that breast cancer rates are rising fastest among women under 50, at about 1.4% a year.

Besides the grants, the nonprofit said, its programs include C.A.R.E. Craft Boxes and holiday support for children and families.

Sponsors include BSI Corporate Benefits, a Bethlehem-based employee benefits consulting firm, and St. Luke’s University Health Network. Yergey Brewing is the location sponsor, and Card My Yard is providing signage.

Organizers said they are still accepting a limited number of sponsors and raffle basket donations. Fegley can be reached by phone or text at 484-904-6048 or by email at ribbonsofc.a.r.e24@gmail.com.

The organization also plans to launch its first support group at 4 p.m. Nov. 20 at Urban Air. The gathering will include free admission, food and a supportive space for families, the nonprofit said. Details are available by calling or texting the same number.
