EASTON, Pa. — The Cash Mob, a popular grassroots event, will return to downtown Easton. The Cash Mob is a surprise shopping spree designed to flood a local business with foot traffic.

The Easton Main Street Initiative is bringing the event back for the first time in years on Friday, June 27, at 6 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring $20 in cash, or whatever they can spend, and gather at the Easton Public Market’s back plaza for a community-powered retail surprise.

The business receiving the “mob” treatment won’t be announced until participants arrive.

“This is how we show up for our local businesses—together, with excitement and a shared commitment to keeping our downtown vibrant,” said Julie VanOsdol, Easton Main Street manager. “Plus, it might be the most fun you’ll ever have with $20.”

Cash mobs first gained national popularity in the early 2010s as a way to rally around small businesses through sudden surges of shoppers. In Easton, past events have created memorable moments for unsuspecting business owners, who found their spaces overflowing with neighbors.

Attendees will also be entered into a raffle for dinner gift cards. The event’s timing — 6 p.m. sharp — aims to offer community members the opportunity to spend a whole night in downtown Easton.

Organizers said the event is more than just fun — it’s a statement of values.

“This is a tangible reminder that small bills and strong community ties can make a big impact,” EMSI said in a statement. “It’s about showing up for the shops and restaurants that make Easton thrive.”

The Easton Main Street Initiative, a Greater Easton Development Partnership program, organizes the event. EMSI focuses on bolstering the city’s economic vitality through community-driven events and support for small businesses.
