EMMAUS, Pa. — A Local cat rescue supporter and supplies store held an event with multi-location rescue organization Friends of Feline Urban Rescue & Rehab after closing hours on July 16, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m. as one of its many free summer events.

Friends of Feline Urban Rescue & Rehab featured their 12-week-old short-haired domestic tabby cat, Portia, for adoption for $130.

Purr Haus also featured a raffle with a cat blanket as a prize. German-made catnip and other products were for sale, along with complimentary light snacks and refreshments.

Purr Haus has been around since its soft-opening in November 2021, according to its website. Laurie Mason, the owner, and her husband, Tim Schroeder, founded the business.

Mason was inspired to help cats in need after writing about the issue as a journalist for The Morning Call, a local newspaper, in the 2010s.

Mason elaborated on how the issue inspired her to take action and why the issue of excessive stray kittens remains an ongoing concern.

“Cats and rescue was always my passion…and so I figured I could combine that with a small business,” Mason said. “This is kitten season, meaning that right now in our community, there are kittens being born outside and 75% of them die. They are killed by predators, disease.”

Mason also explained that Purr Haus houses a small room where 12 rescue organizations hold adoptions every weekend.

Friends of Feline Urban Rescue & Rehab member Amanda Dries outlined what the organization and its FURR Fix Clinic in Bangor, Pennsylvania, hope to accomplish for the remainder of the season.

“We hope to help as many cats and kittens,” Dries said. “It is kitten season…so we hope to help as many kittens as we can, and we also hope to…spay and neuter as many cats…as we can so that we don’t produce any more kittens.”

Breinigsville Feline Good Cat Rescue will bring two of their cats, Blake and Miranda, this coming Saturday, according to Purr Haus’ Facebook page.

Purr Haus is at 27 S. 7th St., Emmaus, PA 18049.
